It’s easy to create a ServiceHub icon on the home page of your iPhone and iPod Touch that will immediately take you to your list of requests.

1. Select the Safari browser icon (blue compass icon) and then select the small “multi-page” icon in the lower right hand corner. This should show all of the browser pages that are currently on the iPhone. In order to clean up all the unneeded web pages, one by one, press on the “x” in the little red circle that deletes each page. When you delete the last one, a full sized page should appear with the word “Untitled” near the top. Just underneath is the place to enter our web page URL (location).

2. Press anywhere in this URL area and a keyboard appears. Enter “ten-20.net/w2″ (without the quote marks). You may be asked to log in or you may see the last ServiceHub page you used on that iPhone. If you need to log in, go ahead and do so.

3. Press on “Req” in the menu bar across the top and you should see your list of requests (or none if you are signed out). At this point, press on the “+” sign near the middle bottom of the display, then Select “Add to Home Screen” and this will show the SH icon along with its name, plus a keyboard at the bottom. Tap the backspace key “<[X]” repeatedly (located near the bottom right corner) to remove the words “Worker Web” in the name, so that all it shows is ServiceHub” next to the SH icon, then press “Add” near the top right corner. Now the icon is on the home page again. If it happens to show up on a different page than where you want it, press and hold your finger on the icon until it starts to wiggle, then drag it to the edge (off the page) until it shows up on the page you want. Press the main page button to stop all the wiggling, and you are done.

No longer lost in translation: UNCH Interpreters replace pagers with iPod Touch.

Watch the video produced by UNCH that tells why this combination is so compelling.

About five years ago, the interpreters dropped the pager system and started using cell phones in conjunction with a Web-based dispatch management service called ServiceHub. The service was originally designed to meet the needs of the transportation and field service industries. UNC Hospitals was ServiceHub’s first hospital client, said Hans Wynholds, chairman of the Cupertino, Calif.-based company.

Shane Rogers, director of Interpreter Services at UNC Hospitals, said the ServiceHub system was a big improvement over the pager system.

“The ServiceHub system gave us many advantages that we didn’t have before,” Rogers said. “For example, it gave people requesting interpreters a Web page for submitting their requests, and they could see whether or not an interpreter had been assigned to handle their request, and if so, which one.”

For more information, see the UNCH web site, the UNCH blog report, and local news reports, including the local TV station WRAL. Even the UNC campus newspaper was intrigued enough to run a story.

Pagers have been around for many years. They do one thing very well, but fail to do the other things that make it a complete communications tool. For hospitals, there is now a better prescription.

Staff wants better control over service requests while patients wait anxiously, and management flies blind. Using their existing infrastructure to gain moment-to-moment visibility of operations, read how UNC Hospitals transformed one of its most challenged departments by using its in-house WiFi network plus our Internet program and Apple’s iPod Touch handsets.

ServiceHub adds intelligence to the messaging infrastructure. Did you know that ServiceHub was one of the original companies to incorporate mobile Internet devices? We even received Microsoft’s award for best collaboration software way back in 1998. Today, ServiceHub specializes in the health care industry’s need for organized collaboration (dispatching and work flow management). There are no capital costs, and the cost savings and improved efficiencies far outweigh the monthly subscription cost. A 60 day pilot will convince you.

Making a difference in someone’s life made even easier with ServiceHub.

This year ServiceHub began a pilot project with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to provide automated coordination of volunteers who drive patents to and from their cancer treatments. ServiceHub hopes to help the ACS more efficiently and effectively service more patients who need assistance.

Global Perspectives on Professional Medical Interpreters– reflects two thoughts, first that the right to a competent medical interpreter in all medically related encounters is not a local issue only but is a right in all parts of the world. Language access is a right that is protected by local, state, federal, and even international laws. The second belief is that medical interpreters are professionals that deserve the recognition and working conditions of comparable professions. While the interpreting profession is well established in the business and conference sectors, it is not as recognized or understood in the health care sector.
